America

Can Rock & Roll be used to catch people?

诺列加.jpg

Manuel Norieg, the de facto ruler of Panama from 1983 to 1989

In 1988, the negotiations between the US and Panama about the issues of the Panama Canal collapsed since Noriega and the Panama people had no intentions of ever resigning. The U.S. launched its invasion of Panama on December 20, 1989. Noriega received several warnings about the invasion, which eventually convinced Noriega to go on the run. On the fifth day of the invasion, Noriega and four others took sanctuary in the Apostolic Nunciature, the Holy See's embassy in Panama.

Attempts to dislodge Noriega from within included gunning vehicle engines, and the US military played rock music at loud volumes since they heard the rumor that Noriega hated rock & roll.

After ten days, Noriega surrendered. But he claimed that there were no windows in his room and he never heard rock music.

CIA : Please tell me how to undermine someone

Salvador Allende, the 28th president of Chile, a physician and socialist politician.

The US didn’t want a leftist leader in Chile, so they distributed a childhood picture of Allende dressed as a little girl in an attempt to undermine him during the campaign.

Allende won the campaign anyway, but was killed on 11 September 1973 in the coup, which was staged by General Augusto Pinochet, aided by the United States and its CIA.

The different fates of trees on the same island

海地岛.jpg

Hispaniola island in the Caribbean is divided into two separate nations: the Spanish-speaking Dominican Republic and the French / Haitian Creole-speaking Haiti.

François Duvalier, the dictator of Haiti from 1957 to 1971, supported massive deforestation of trees in order to maintain the nation’s agricultural industry.

On the other side of the island, Rafael Trujillo, Dominican dictator who ruled the Dominican Republic from February 1930 until his assassination in May 1961, carried out an environmental policy. He banned the slash-and-burn method of clearing land for agriculture, set up a forest warden agency to protect the park system, and banned the logging of pine trees without his permission.

The Boxer President

Abraham Lincoln,  the 16th president of the United States from 1861 until his assassination in 1865.

He was famous for his contributions of leading the nation through the American Civil War, preserving the Union, abolishing slavery, bolstering the federal government, and modernizing the U.S. economy.

Not many people know that Lincoln is enshrined in the Wrestling Hall of Fame and was defeated only once in approximately 300 matches.
